EL AMOR BRUJO

Baritone/Bass-Baritone

text by Harold Norse
Duration: 4:00
Date of Composition: 1979

PROGRAM NOTES: El Amor Brujo (Bewitched Love) is a setting of a gay poem by Harold Norse, dated New York, 1941. Actually it’s not gay but very sad. Its poignancy and supercharged sexuality suggested a slow blues setting. There is little doubt what is going on at the climax in the piano accompaniment. The song was completed the last day of November, 1979, as a Christmas present for the pianist Yvar Mikhashoff.
