PROGRAM NOTES: The Coffee Rondo is an excerpt from a 30-minute theater piece entitled For Love of the Double Bass. At this point in the larger work the bass and bassist have just drunk a lot of coffee to cure their hangovers. The caffeine promotes this sunny, up-tempo rondo in G-major (as in Bach’s Coffee Cantata). The style is classical, not so much neoclassical as postmodern: the rondo is re-presented. -James Sellars
